U.S. News & World Report - Investors still trust the safety of bond funds. June was another good month for fixed income. The Investment Company Institute reported that overall, mutual funds saw net inflows, mostly into bond funds. Bond funds experienced inflows of more than $20 billion--up about $6 billion from May. Meanwhile, stock funds saw more outflows. The WSJ reports that investors haven't consistently put money into stock funds since the market hit its low in March 2009. Low-yielding money market funds also continued to see outflows, which brings their total outflows for the year to more than $500 billion.

AP - Tire inventories dwindled during the recession with money so tight. J.P. Morgan analyst Himanshu Patel asked Goodyear executives on Thursday to discuss the commercial truck inventory situation. Goodyear's president and CEO, Richard J. Kramer, said rebuilding inventories would provide a sales opportunity.
AP - Italian officials are seeking to raise some euro25 million (about $32 million) in private money to finance the restoration of one of the country's iconic landmarks: the Colosseum.

The next several weeks, leading up to the November elections, are sure to be filled with resounding political invective over who should pay for Washington's profligate spending over the last decade.
